Zebra and Epson aren't really head-to-head competitors for most buyers — they're usually solving two different printing problems. Figuring out which one you need starts with what you're printing, not which brand is "better."

When you need a Zebra printer
If you're printing barcode labels for inventory, shipping labels for carriers, compliance labels, or asset tags — anything that needs to scan reliably and often needs to survive handling, weather, or long-term storage — you need a label printer like Zebra's ZD or ZT series. When you need an Epson printer
If you're printing customer receipts at a checkout counter or from a POS system, you need a receipt printer like Epson's TM series — not a label printer. Receipt printers use continuous thermal paper rather than die-cut labels, and integrate with POS software rather than shipping/WMS software.
Do you need both?
Many retail and warehouse operations legitimately run both: a Zebra label printer for shipping/inventory labels, and an Epson (or similar) receipt printer at the register. They're not a replacement for each other.
The TM-T88V is officially end-of-life, replaced by the TM-T88VI — but it's still extremely common in active deployments, and used/refurbished units remain a practical, budget option if you're maintaining an existing fleet rather than standardizing on a new model.
